Types of Trek

A)Camping trek
This classic style of trekking is "tent treks" which employ porters to carry your gear and Sherpas to set up camp, cook, and serve meal. You only need to carry a small-lightweight backpack with a water bottle, camera and your day clothes. The day usually begins around 6am with tea, coffee, or hot chocolate served to you in front of your tent. After your tea and after you have freshened up, you pack up your personal gear and then have breakfast. While you are eating, the Sherpas take down the tents and pack up loads for the porters. The entire group is on the way about 7 am. The porters are slower and the cook crews (Sherpas) race ahead to have lunch awaiting for the groups arrival. Lunch is usually around 11or 12. Most treks usually end by early afternoon (often by 3pm). And once again, everything is prepared and waiting for you: your tent is set up and the kitchen crew again has tea prepared. And of course, a delicious meal is just around the corner! Later on you have free time to either relax and read a good book or explore the surrounding area.

B)Lodge Trekking
Another popular way to trek in Nepal is to using local lodges. These places are often quite nice, serving excellent food and providing many different services such as showers and laundry. There is a limited area where theses facilities are available and so be sure to inquire before you go off to a specific region. However, in areas such as the Everest, Annapurna, and Langtang Region--there are many nice accommodations and one can trek with a bare minimum of equipment. In our package programs we take our clients to some of the nicer places in the regions--for being in such remote areas, I think most people would be impressed with just how nice some of these places are! Like in the camping treks, porters will also carry the client's gear. Treks begin from 7 to 8 am. Before we start, we provide hot drinks tea/coffee/hot chocolate and then a nutritious Breakfast. Lunch is provided between 11 to 12 am and the day usually ends around 3 to 4 pm.

What should be brought on a trek?
  • Lightweight Boots that give ankle support (preferably waterproof)
  • Warm jacket (down during the winter time)--or a nice fleece jacket
  • Waterproof pants and jacket--preferably gor-tex
  • A pair of comfortable trekking pants
  • Sun Glass that provide 100% UV protection
  • 1 pair of Thermal underwear
  • A pair of loose fitting comfortable pants to wear around camp (fleece pants are great for this!)
  • 2 shirts--synethic material is best. Avoid cotton at high elevations at all costs! (it does not wick away moisture and stays wet and at high altitude this can lead to hypothermia---this goes for all clothing!)
  • A wool hat that preferably can cover the ears
  • A pair of fleece gloves and preferable also a waterproof shell that will go over them
  • A pair of slippers
  • 3 pairs of thick wool or synthetic wool socks
  • In bad weather areas or during the winter, gaiters may be needed.
  • An umbrella can be a great thing to have as well!
